A SYMBOL OF WEALTH AND PROTECTION

This gorgeous piece was crafted in silver and brass by master artisans of the Nias people of north Sumatra, Indonesia.

The tradition of making Ono Niha ear ornaments dates back to ancient times, worn by both men and women, representing social status and wealth. They were oftenly worn by nobility and prominent members of the community. Ono Niha were also seen as connections to the ancestors, so wearing them during rituals and ceremonies was believed to honor the ancestors and invoke their blessings and protection.

In contemporary times, while still retaining their cultural importance,
Ono Niha ear ornaments have also become admired pieces of art.
They are often displayed in homes, museums, and art galleries as symbols of the rich cultural heritage and exceptional craftsmanship of the Nias people.

The Ono Niha comes complete on a black metal stand and its story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope. Being artisan crafted, every piece is an original, showcasing the natural beauty of the material with organic imperfections. The handmade metal support carries its own authenticity, with subtle imperfections and the potential for a natural patina to emerge over time.
