This striking piece was made in silver and brass on the island of Timor in Indonesia made by local artisans sometimes during the 1950’s.

Silver combs have been an important part of the island’s rich cultural heritage & traditions since antiquity, crafted by skilled silversmiths using traditional methods passed down through generations. Seen as representations of status, beauty, and spiritual protection they are elaborate and stunning heirlooms worn during important ceremonies.

The coins decorating the comb signify wealth and trade, highlighting the piece as a status symbol, while the floral motifs represent beauty, growth and the island’s natural environment. The seated men, depicted in a reflective posture, symbolize peace, contemplation and respect for ancestral traditions or spiritual beliefs.
Together, these elements combine to showcase the comb as both a personal adornment and a symbol of social status, spirituality, and cultural identity.

The comb comes complete on a black metal stand and its story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope. The handmade metal support carry its own authenticity, with subtle imperfections and the potential for a natural patina to emerge over time.
